Dr. Lightfoot began with the Hopkins School District in 1992 teaching language arts courses at Hopkins West Junior High and Hopkins High School.  In 1999 he began working in administration as West Junior High's associate principal.  In 2002, he transitioned to the central office in human resources, assuming the human resource director position in 2004.  Since 2006, he has served as the District's assistant superintendent.

Dr. Lightfoot's academic interests include doctoral work in educational policy and administration at the University of Minnesota.  His dissertation evaluated the effects of high school online learning programs.  After completing his doctoral work, he graduated from Hamline University's School of Law where he also completed additional training in alternative dispute resolution and mediated employment discrimination cases.

Dr. Lightfoot's interests include spending time with family and friends here in Minnesota as well as Northwestern Wisconsin.  In his spare time, you can find him spending time kayaking on the lake, traveling, exercising, reading in the hammock, or catching up on an obscure foreign film or Hollywood blockbuster.
