One of the things I do is offer to read a story each month to all classes. This is one of my favorite things I get to do. In January, I read the story, "The Cool Bean." It is a wonderful story about how we all can be a Cool Bean by being kind and doing simple things for others. The author, Jory John, wrote two other books that I read last year: "The Bad Seed" and "The Good Egg." I read the same book to pre-schoolers through 6th graders. It is so much fun for me because your children are respectful, focused listeners and they have great observations and questions. Some of my past favorite read-alouds are "The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors", "Alan's Big Scary Teeth", and "The Book With No Pictures." Ask your children about some of the stories I've read and see what they remember. I'm narrowing down my book for February so I'll soon be back in classes reading a new story. As always, thank you for what you do to support your children and all of us here at Gatewood.

MN Dept of Health Influenza Symptoms from Nurse Lauren
If your child exhibits a fever of 100 F or more and has a cough or a sore throat, they may have influenza. Keep your child home for at least 24 hours after his or her fever is gone without fever-reducing medicine. For many children, this could be 5 to 7 days. Your child should feel well enough to participate in school before returning. If you have questions about your child's health symptoms, call your child's doctor or clinic. Please call the school if your child is absent with influenza-like symptoms or any other illness, such as strep throat.
