What’s New at Alice Smith:  Second Step Learning

Second Step is a Social and Emotional Curriculum that all Alice Smith students (preK – Grade 6) are participating in. Second Step is described as a program that "transforms schools into supportive, successful learning environments uniquely equipped to help students thrive."

Second Step specifically helps students collectively create a learning community that is welcoming for all, build strategies to stay on task, learn empathy and compassion, engage in problem solving to create positive solutions, and build friendships skills.  Each lesson focus has clear alignment with our 2031 Vision and the Traits of a Hopkins Graduate.  Each lesson also builds on the strengths of our students helping them recognize their unlimited potential.

I encourage you to reach out to your child's classroom teacher if you have any questions or want to give any input on the Second Step Curriculum.

Alice Smith Vision 2031:  Partnering with Our Hopkins Community

On Tuesday, February 11th the Alice Smith Visioning Team, made up of 6th grade students, met with Hopkins’ Director of Economic Development and Planning, Kersten Elverum, to discuss potential partnership opportunities between Alice Smith and the City of Hopkins.  Our students did an incredible job sharing their ideas, including the idea of creating internships or businesses.  After presenting their ideas, the students spent time brainstorming with Mrs. Elverum.  She sees unlimited potential in continuing our partnership. Our students see unlimited benefits for both our school and our city.  If you have any thoughts about our quest to build this unique student directed partnership, please contact Jody De St. Hubert at or at 952.988.4201.

Look for our next steps in future communications!
