It was a wish come true for TT Bartsch, a Tanglen Elementary second-grader. TT was surprised in his classroom by Make-A-Wish Minnesota on Jan. 24. His wish to go on a Disney Cruise had been granted.

Two volunteers from Make-A-Wish brought in balloons, cupcakes, a small gift, and a Disney Cruise countdown for TT. His parents and two sibling also joined in the fun.

“Once he realized why we were there and what was happening, to see his excitement was priceless,” said Bob Bartsch, TT’s father.

TT has a serious heart condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which is when the heart muscle becomes abnormally thick. He takes daily medication to treat the condition, but he has still undergone many procedures and hospital stays over the past few years.

In addition, TT has Noonan Syndrome, a genetic disorder that prevents normal development in parts of the body. It his case, it’s what caused his heart defects and what makes him smaller than his peers. TT had open heart surgery in January 2018 to help alleviate his symptoms, but he will ultimately need a heart transplant.

TT chose a Disney cruise as his wish because he wanted to do something the whole family could enjoy. The Bartsch family will leave for their Disney cruise vacation on March 3. Their trip will conclude in Orlando, Fla. at the Walt Disney World parks.

“We are most looking forward to is spending time together and experiencing a little Disney magic as a family,” Bartsch said.

TT’s family is thankful to Make-A-Wish for making the trip happen. In addition, Bartsch said the teachers and staff at Tanglen have been fantastic.

“They have been a godsend to us and we can’t thank them enough for love and support they give to TT, and the rest of the students for that matter,” Bartsch said. “We are so happy that we found a home at Tanglen!”
