Legislative Action Coalition

The purpose of Hopkins Public Schools' Legislative Action Coalition is to assist the Hopkins School Board in advocacy for education-related legislation. The LAC Steering Committee coordinates these advocacy efforts throughout the Hopkins School District by developing, proposing, and advocating for legislative positions designed to advance the cause of good schools in Hopkins and Minnesota. The Legislative Action Coalition and the LAC Steering Committee exist by Hopkins School Board policy and their activities are subject to Hopkins School Board approval.

Advocacy Day 2017 at the Capitol

Members of the Hopkins Legislative Action Coalition were joined by advocacy groups from Robbinsdale, Wayzata and Orono for a day of education advocacy at the Capitol.  We heard from Rep. Jennifer Loon, chair of the House Education Finance Committee and we met with 11 of our Hopkins representatives.  We prioritized an increase on the general funding formula of at least 2%, in line with the Governor's budget proposal, as well as a 25% increase in special education funding.
